Cerita Kami

Our Story - Ā Tātou Kōrero

In the past, Indonesian Islamic lectures were attended by only a few people and held in different homes for Islamic study sessions. We called it "Pengajian Kampung Auckland", which translates to "Auckland Village Lecture".

The Muslim community from Indonesia in Auckland is slowly growing, indicating an increase in its size. Several members of the Indonesian community later proposed the idea of establishing a trustee. A group of individuals have registered an organization called HUMIA, which stands for Himpunan Umat Muslim Indonesia di Auckland, or the Indonesian Muslim Association in Auckland. The Ambassador of Indonesia, Mr. Primo Alui Joelianto, opened the first inauguration on August 20, 2005.

Attending a lecture at someone's unfamiliar abode can be uncomfortable, especially for newcomers. For this reason, in 2006, the regular lecture was relocated to a community centre, eliminating house-to-house events from the biweekly gatherings. It has become more than an Islamic lecture since then, and the organisation has connected Indonesians, from international students, the new migrants and tangata whenua (Indonesian New Zealanders) in several events.

Board of Trustees

The community elects the members of ummah representatives, and the elected members will vote for the Board of Trustees, which takes place every two years.
